We are a political action committe.
We have formed to help stop the budget cuts to California's Developmentally Disabled community and to maintain the entitlement rights as provided by the Lanterman Act. To maintain the Lanternman Act and to Challenge the budget cuts that are comprimising California's Developmentally Disabled support system is our mission.
Why do we need DPAV?
DPAV is the missing peice in our developmental system, the political peice. The evidence of the need is very clear and frightening. We are all aware of the economic downturns and
how this has affected everyone. The budget cuts to the D.D. system have been horrific. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been slashed from our funding and the Governor and the legislature want to cut hundreds of millions more in the near future. This is unacceptable. As non-profit status is applied to nearly all organizations and services that suffer from the funding reductions, there is little that they can do in the way of real political action. We at DPAV can do the political activities that the non-profits cannot.
We can do something.
Endorse candidates for office.
Make campaign contributions.
Make expenditures on behalf of candidates.
Ask candidates to sign pledges on important issues.
Publish and communicate in relation to candidates.
In the D.D. system, case loads are to high, wages to low
workers are not hired and many have lost their jobs. Those of us with disabilities, and their families are the hardest hit as the services and choices are diminished. There are over 250,000 people with disabilities and their families in the system. Add the over 100,000 workers and we have a real voice that can change the systematic errosion of Californias D.D. system. It is the best in the country and we are going to have to fight to keep it that way.
We need your help.
DPAV, with your help, in the way of contributions and smart voting can and will create the changes we need to continue keeping our D.D. system the best. The time to act is now!
An old saying goes " The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago ". We have to plant trees now. The future for our system is grim and if we do not help ourselves right now. This is not about us. Its about the people we represent. We are voice of those that cannot speak up and we are determined to fight this out to very end. Please join us in our efforts.
